What do the Prince of Pot and the King of Pot have in Common? A blinding drive to disclose the truth about Marijuana. Both of these men have been at the front lines of activism in this area.

BRUCE PERLOWIN is famed for running the biggest and most sophisticated marijuana smuggling organization in California history. In fact, he ran the operation like a Fortune 500 company. His operation was so sophisticated it even included his own “counter-intelligence” unit, which monitored the movements of Coast Guard craft and kept track of DEA and FBI agents. The news media dubbed him "The King of Pot". Bruce Perlowin had earned over $100 million dollars by the time he was 30 years old. All that went up in smoke (pun intended), when he was finally caught in 1983. Being a man of honor and trust, he turned down offers by federal prosecutors to let him “walk,” and took a 15-year prison term rather than snitch on his former employees and partners.

Now Bruce Perlowin, The King of Pot is on the legal side of the business. From his experience in the Marijuana business and his later experience in the "stored value" card business, he has now patented a secure payment and tax remittance system for the Medical Marijuana Industry. He is once again on the front line of a very exciting up and coming industry, where there are millions more to be made. Medical Marijuana, Inc. is Bruce's new company and is the first company in the industry to go public. Business is booming in California and the company plans on expanding into other states where medical marijuana is legal or soon to become legal.

Check out the company Medical Marijuana, Inc. at: . Then go buy some stock in increments of 420.

The Canadian Marc Emery is called "Prince of Pot". Emery has been known as a book seller and activist in Canada for 30 years, fighting against censorship laws and other social issues long before he became a drug law reform activist. He has been a media figure for 20 years with regards to marijuana and drug law reform. His message is "Canadians need to know ending prohibition is the most valuable political act of our time."

Because Emery was so successful in fighting against the US-led War on Drugs, the powers in America decided to shut him up. Emery was sought on three charges for selling pot seeds across the border via mail, through his pot culture magazine Cannabis Culture. He was facing a possibility of 25 years to 75 years in a U.S. prison. His lawyer has advised him to take a plea deal, agreeing to a sentence of 5 years. Emery is expected to turn himself in in August to authorities.

Smoke Has Contrasting Effects On Lung Function Compared To Tobacco, Study Says

Editors Note:

This is another example of the truth about Marijuana. Why people refuse to see the benefits and focus on false information is beyond me. Dunedid, New Zealand: Inhaling cannabis has contrasting effects on lung function compared to smoking tobacco, according to the results of a population-based study published online in the European Respiratory Journal.

Investigators at the University of Otago in New Zealand compared the effects of cannabis and tobacco smoke on lung function in over 1,000 adults.

Researchers reported, "Cumulative cannabis use was associated with higher forced vital capacity [the volume of air that can forcibly be blown out after full inspiration], total lung capacity, functional residual capacity [the volume of air present in the lungs at the end of passive expiration], and residual volume. Cannabis was also associated with higher airways resistance but not with forced expiratory volume in 1 second [the maximum volume of air that can be forcibly blown out in the first second during the FVC test], forced expiratory ratio, or transfer factor. These findings were similar amongst those who did not smoke tobacco."

Congressman legalizes pot for himself

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Sal Dennison (D-OH) successfully inserted an amendment into a House bill, which would legalize marijuana for his own personal use.

“I thought I’d give it a shot,” said Dennison, referring to how he snuck the one-sentence amendment into a bill on highway funding. “It was more of an experiment, to see if anyone would notice.”

Apparently, no one did.

HR 4885, “The Highway Improvement and Pot Legalization for Representative Dennison Act” passed both houses of Congress and was signed into law by President Obama on Monday. Rep. Dennison is now the only American citizen legally allowed to use marijuana for any purpose, recreational or medicinal.

Dennison has turned his office on Capitol Hill into a sort of nursery for marijuana plants. Cannabis leaves sprout from every drawer and cabinet. A jar on his desk contains dozens of hand-rolled marijuana cigarettes. He freely admits his addiction to pot smoking and recently told his constituents that he really doesn’t want to do anything else. They responded by donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to his reelection campaign.

“They kinda dig their pot-smokin’ congressman,” said Dennison. “They think it’s cool.”

Marijuana Cuts Lung Cancer Tumor Growth In Half, Study Shows

ScienceDaily (Apr. 17, 2007) — The active ingredient in marijuana cuts tumor growth in common lung cancer in half and significantly reduces the ability of the cancer to spread, say researchers at Harvard University who tested the chemical in both lab and mouse studies.....
They say this is the first set of experiments to show that the compound, Delta-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), inhibits EGF-induced growth and migration in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expressing non-small cell lung cancer cell lines. Lung cancers that over-express EGFR are usually highly aggressive and resistant to chemotherapy.....

"The beauty of this study is that we are showing that a substance of abuse, if used prudently, may offer a new road to therapy against lung cancer," said Anju Preet, Ph.D., a researcher in the Division of Experimental Medicine.

Marijuana Ingredient May Reduce Tumors: Study Shows

London — The active ingredient in marijuana appears to reduce tumor growth, according to a Spanish study published on Wednesday. The researchers showed giving THC to mice with cancer decreased tumor growth and killed cells off in a process called autophagy.

“Our findings support that safe, therapeutically efficacious doses of THC may be reached in cancer patients,” Guillermo Velasco of Complutense University in Madrid and colleagues reported in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

The findings add to mixed evidence about the effects of marijuana on human health. Studies have suggested the drug can raise a person’s risk of heart attack or stroke and cause cancer.

Medical Marijuana Inc. in Forbes

In Rachel Ehrenfeld's article about ObamaCare's Medical Marijuana, she mentions Medical Marijuana Inc. as having a solution for tax remittance. But she misses her facts or should we say that she has selected medical studies that support her point of view on medical marijuana. Why didn't she post the medical studies on pharmaceuticals, that show the damage those drugs do to people, like liver and kidney failure? She totally neglected to mention all of the people who it helps, like those terminally ill, or suffering from other aliments.

Here is what I consider to be the most important truth she wrote in that article. If you care to read the full story click on the title.....

Since Obama took office, "medical marijuana" dispensary owners in some of the 15 states where it's legal, or tolerated, report requests "climbed sky high." Medical Marijuana, Inc. ( MJNA.PK - news - people ), an Oregon-based company, which has been traded on the Nasdaq since April of 2009, offers solutions for this emerging industry. Its Web site claims that "the number of ailing people turning to medical marijuana to ease their symptoms has spiked in 2009. Requests have jumped anywhere from 50% to 300%."

In California, where medical marijuana is already legal, a massive campaign is underway to legalize all uses of the drug. Soros and other pro-drug legalization organizations claim that tax revenues from marijuana sales would fill the empty coffers of the state with at least $1.4 billion for the first year. The more users, the more money for the state.

A revenue collection system is already in place to ensure the tax revenues for the states that allow "medical marijuana." The system, developed by Medical Marijuana, Inc., boasts, "The Stored Value Platform System, a point-of-sale system, is a hallmark element of Medical Marijuana's business solutions package." The company has already signed on many marijuana collectives, and lobbies heavily to sign on the City of Oakland, Calif., which is the first city in the nation that voted in favor of collecting tax proceeds from marijuana sale, "as part of the solution to Oakland's longstanding budget shortfall."

The Case For Medical Marijuana

In a piece published in Forbes last week (, Rachel Ehrenfeld reports with dismay that the National Institute on Drug Abuse is presently soliciting proposals from contractors to grow marijuana for research and other purposes. Unfortunately, Ehrenfeld's misunderstanding of this request for proposals is so monumental that one doesn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Ehrenfeld suggests that this is some sinister part of "Obamacare." "For the first time," she writes, "the government is soliciting organizations that can grow marijuana on a 'large scale,' with the capability to 'prepare marijuana cigarettes and related products ... distribute marijuana, marijuana cigarettes and cannabinoids, and other related products' not only for research, but also for 'other government programs.'"

Ehrenfeld spends several paragraphs explaining how this is all the evil brainchild of George Soros, the pet villain of prohibitionists. After all, "Since when is the U.S. government in the business of distributing marijuana cigarettes?"

Since 1978, actually. The federal government has been distributing medical marijuana to a small group of patients for more than three decades via a program known as an IND (for "investigational new drug"). This program has been covered in the media from time to time, and still exists, although it was closed to new enrollment by President George H.W. Bush in 1992. It's not exactly a state secret.

In addition, under present (thoroughly dysfunctional) rules, scientists doing clinical research on marijuana must obtain the marijuana for testing from NIDA. Since the 1970s, the government has contracted with the University of Mississippi to produce marijuana for this purpose, and all expectations are that the university will get the contract again. In other words, there is nothing new here.

Having completely misconstrued NIDA's request for proposals as something new and sinister, Ehrenfeld proceeds with a selective, wildly distorted description of research on medical marijuana, claiming, "The evidence about the harm caused by marijuana to the individual user and society is overwhelming."

MMJ Producers See Bright Future for Entrepreneurs

Michigan — Now that it can be legally sold in Michigan, Greg Francisco is looking forward to the prospect of cashing in on the state’s emerging medical marijuana industry. He may even move from Kalamazoo to Detroit, where he thinks the growth will take off.

“This is a multimillion dollar industry that is just opening up,” said Francisco, a retired school teacher who insists medical marijuana isn’t the same pot that some smoked in high school or college. Years of careful cultivation have led to a fluffy, fragrant variety, he says while opening a medicine bottle.

Medical marijuana is already a flourishing industry that is only going to get bigger in Michigan, Francisco and other advocates say. Since November, when voters made Michigan the 13th state to legalize it, opportunists have been organizing, networking and creating businesses to grow the crop, deliver it to the patients and everything in between.

Medical Marijuana Community Loses a Friend

Scott Turner, a New Hampshire medical marijuana patient who made headlines during the presidential primaries when he got then-Sen. Obama to promise to end federal interference in medical marijuana states, died Aug. 4.

Scott, who suffered a long, painful battle with degenerative joint disease and a degenerative disc disease, was a great friend to MPP and a tireless advocate for the rights of patients to use medical marijuana without fear of arrest.

Drug Czar's Explanation on Medicinal Marijuana Not Enough

Last month, Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske came under fire for his statement, reported in the Fresno Bee, that marijuana “has no medicinal value.” Giving him the chance to clear up any confusion on the matter, KOMO-TV aired a follow-up interview today with Kerlikowske.

The Drug Czar had this to say:
Sometimes you make a mistake and you work very hard to correct it. That happens. I should’ve clearly said ’smoked’ marijuana and then gone on to say that this is clearly a question that should be answered by the medical community.

Kerlikowske also said:
The FDA has not determined that smoked marijuana has a medical)value…
Although it’s nice to see a correction to his previous statement, and leaving it to the medical community is favorable to harmful and unnecessary law enforcement actions, the Drug Czar’s position is still problematic.

There’s a Monopoly on Marijuana Growing & Research

USA — I’d like you to meet Dr. Mahmoud ElSohly, the only person in the United States who can grow tons of marijuana and not worry the Feds will bust him.

If your company wants to do research on marijuana, he’s the guy to see. Dr. ElSohly’s lab at the University of Mississippi has an exclusive contract with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), which supplies the pot to approved researchers who study its ill effects.
Despite the federal government’s efforts to suppress marijuana’s positive aspects for the last 72 years, researchers everywhere watch with interest as Big Pharma gets involved with the controversial herb and its therapeutic qualities.

And why not? There’s a lot of money involved. Without fanfare, three legal drugs made with THC, the primary psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, are on the market.

California has three initiatives filed to legalize marijuana

Previous articles compared two marijuana legalization initiatives filed in California and discussed the California initiative process and the relationship of initiatives to laws passed by the state legislature. One of these initiatives has been amended and a third filed.

The newest addition to California's marijuana legalization initiatives is the Common Sense Act of 2010 by Common Sense California.

This initiative, which was filed 4 Aug 09, repeals marijuana prohibition in California, gives the legislature a year to pass laws to regulate and tax marijuana, and calls for California members of Congress to work to remove cannabis from the Federal Schedule of Controlled Substances.

Medical Marijuana Inc. Signs More Collectives & Invites Oakland to Learn About Tax Collection System

Medical Marijuana Inc continues an aggressive program of expansion, with the announcement of four new North Californian medical marijuana collectives signing up for its 'Stored Value Platform System'.

Medical Marijuana, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: MJNA) announced today that MOU agreements are now in place with an additional four medical marijuana collectives from different counties in the Northern California region. All four collectives have signed on to implement MJNA's Stored Value Platform System in their respective businesses.

The Stored Value Platform System, a Point-of-Sale system, is a hallmark element of Medical Marijuana's business solutions package. This stored value-based system, once in place, helps businesses that are dispensing medical marijuana more efficiently and securely manage the tasks of revenue and taxation collection. The ease of access to certifiably secure transactions lessens the risk of loss at each level. Both provider and patient benefit greatly from this revolutionary program designed by MJNA.

The addition of collectives within the top half of the Golden State is also important to Medical Marijuana, Inc. on another level too.

As part of its effort to persuade at least one major Bay Area municipality to join in discussions with the Company regarding its automated tax collection solutions.

Per a special July 2009 election, the City of Oakland, CA, will become the first U.S. city to tax proceeds on the sale of medical marijuana. Approximately 80 percent of voters residing within city limits chose to support the initiative, which was adopted by many of the city's medical marijuana collectives and the Oakland City Council as part of the solution to Oakland's longstanding budget shortfall.

By employing Medical Marijuana's tax collection system, the City of Oakland could cost-effectively implement the necessary infrastructure to collect on every sale made within city limits by licensed collectives and collect those taxes on a daily basis. The POS system automatically recognizes the collective's tax ID number, state and local tax rates and then provides Automated Clearing House settlement of the taxes and routes the amount to the City's appointed financial institution. Taxes can be collected on a daily basis, providing an economic windfall for the city of Oakland and any other municipality recognizing the advantages of this model.

Tax Collection

The Stored Value Platform System will provide verifiable solutions to manage the difficult task of revenue and taxation collection. The "Point of Sale" (POS) system will recognize the dispensary's tax ID number, state and local tax rates and then provide "Automated Clearing House" (ACH) settlement of the taxes to the proper financial institutions. The customers of the dispensary are issued a plastic debit card or medical revenue card. The ease of access to certifiably secure transactions lessens the risk of loss at each level of the transaction.

Internal Management

All collectives/dispensaries in the U.S. are cash businesses. This presents a number of challenges. Dispensary owners risk employee theft and possible competition for sales with unsupervised employees. Our stored value card also eliminates the risks of carrying cash. For the investor looking to open more than one dispensary, this card allows him the ease of mind of knowing all transactions are accounted for in all of his locations.

Medical Marijuana, Inc. is developing a suite of solutions to deliver an efficient and secure infrastructure for the Medical Marijuana Industry that will provide the tools to industry operators to effectively manage their businesses with the confidence that they are in full compliance.

Medical Marijuana, Inc. is the first public company to recognize the vast and unequaled opportunities that exist in the rapidly expanding medical marijuana industry. The scientific recognition of marijuana as a powerful medicine, and as an effective, non-narcotic pain reliever, has brought legalized marijuana use to the forefront of mainstream discussion thus opening the door for safe and lucrative investment opportunities.

Medical Marijuana, Inc. has developed a suite of turnkey business and management solutions for the fledgling medical marijuana collective industry in California. The growing number of other states that have legalized the use of medical marijuana have yet to establish a system for the legalized commercial production and sale of the medicine. These regions are also strong potential targets for Medical Marijuana, Inc.'s products and services down the road. It is likely that other states will follow California's basic lead as the Golden State more specifically defines the regulations and protocol that are shaping the supply-side of the legal medical marijuana sector.

Wall Street Journal’s Front Page Covers Medical Marijuana In California

With 'Med Pot' Raids Halted, Selling Grass Grows Greener

LAKE FOREST, Calif. -- Sellers of marijuana as a medicine here don't fret about raids any more. They've stopped stressing over where to hide their stash or how to move it unseen.

Now their concerns involve the state Board of Equalization, which collects sales tax and requires a retailer ID number. Or city planning offices, which insist that staircases comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act. Then there is marketing strategy, which can mean paying to be a "featured dispensary" on a Web site for pot smokers.

After years in the shadows, medical marijuana in California is aspiring to crack the commercial mainstream.

The race to legalize in CA is on

Last week a group led by Richard Lee, of “Oaksterdam University” filed an official ballot initiative with the attorney general’s office. This latest initiative brings the number up to three different groups and/or politicians seeking to be the first to legalize marijuana in the golden state......

The Cannabis Act would allow anyone 21 and over to possess up to one ounce of the green, magic herb. People would also be protected when growing the plants on a 25 square foot area.

Stephen Gutwillig, director of the California Drug Policy Alliance has stated the DPA would rather see the initiative on the 2012 ballot in order to gain more support, but would be happy if there was an earlier win.

Also in the running for the 2010 ballot is The Tax, Regulate and Control Cannabis Act of 2010. The initiative was filed in early July by a group of California defense lawyers. This initiative is requesting the repeal of all marijuana laws in the state, would put no limits on the amount of cannabis that can be possessed and transported, opens law to legalized hemp industry, requires local and state mandating of cannabis industry, and like the title says, tax sales of the plant.

Is it time to tax medical pot?

Sales at Sebastopol’s Peace in Medicine are not subject to disclosure, but the dispensary serves 10,800 clients, Jacob said. A second location is being developed at 950 Gravenstein Highway south.

Sebastopol City Councilwoman Kathleen Shaffer said the time is ripe to talk about taxation. “I would like to see it legalized and taxed at this point,” she said. “What Oakland has done will probably benefit the community.”

Sebastopol Police Chief Jeff Weaver said the dispensary has not created additional crime. It was the target of an unsuccessful armed burglary in May, but the city also had bank and armored car robberies this year.

When it comes to the city’s budget and funding for basic services, such as police, the community will have to decide, he said. “The community has to decide whether it’s comfortable with marijuana as a source of income. Same as they would have to be comfortable with a casino or some other non-traditional source of money,” he said.

Excerpts read from the Best-selling Hemp Book THE EMPEROR WEARS NO CLOTHES to be shown for Academy Consideration

July 31, 2009- LOS ANGELES, CA- Celebrities and activists show their support for the legalization of hemp by reading excerpts from Jack Herer’s Best-selling Hemp Book, “The Emperor Wears No Clothes”. A short presentation of the celebrity footage demystifying hemp’s uses, is being shown theatrically at the Laemmle Theatres in Los Angeles August 25-31 to qualify for Academy Award Consideration for Best Short Documentary Subject as part of the campaign to help raise awareness and voter support for the feature length documentary of the same title, scheduled for release in 2010. Principal photography for the controversial feature length documentary began on Sunday, June 28, 2009 and continues throughout the summer.

The short and feature length docs will both feature celebrities and activists reading excerpts from the book off a teleprompter, archival footage, periodicals, US Government propaganda encouraging American farmers to grow hemp, and compelling never-before-seen footage. The docs are being produced by The Brookturn Co., co-directed by author Jack Herer and filmmaker Melissa Balin, shot by cinematographer, Eric Adkins (Sky Captain & The World Of Tomorrow), edited by Brandon Balin, and featuring original music by DJ Dre Ghost of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Executive Producers Eddy Lepp and Jack Herer (co-authors of the California Hemp Initiative) were both on set to kick off principal photography on June 28th, just days before Lepp surrendered himself to Lompoc Prison (July 6, 2009), to serve a 10-year sentence, that the presiding judge herself called “excessive”, for his growth of medical marijuana under the governances of California State Law. Herer is determined to free all prisoners of this senseless “War” and explains enthusiastically, “Until the 19th Century, over 50% of all foodstuffs and 80% of all fibers worldwide were made from Hemp. Hemp is the only thing that can save our planet and the American people are being fed antiquated misinformation through fear-mongering. We have dedicated our lives to getting the truth heard and we hope that this documentary will bring the information forward to a new generation. The time for change is NOW.” Celebrities receive themed giftbags for donating their time; including a personalized signed copy of Herer’s book, “The Emperor Wears No Clothes”.
